2 Dead In Pittsburgh Home Explosion

Two people died when a Pittsburgh-area home exploded early Tuesday.

CRESCENT TOWNSHIP, PA — A home exploded in the 1400 block of Riverview Road at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Two people were killed, officials confirmed at a news conference Tuesday.

"It was complete devastation when we first arrived on scene," Crescent Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Andrew Tomer said.

Fire crews and first responders on the scene discovered a large fire from a home that had clearly exploded. A man and woman died at the scene. Their identities have not yet been relased by the Allegeheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is leading the investigation. There was a private gas well and propane tanks at the home, but no official cause of the explosion has been determined. Investigations of this nature are thorough and often take a significant amount of time.
