2 Fire-Damaged Pittsburgh Eateries Struggling To Reopen

Two adjacent Pittsburgh restaurants heavily damaged in a fire last month are experiencing difficulties in their attempts to rebuild.

PITTSBURGH, PA — It likely will be months before two North Side eateries damaged in a December fire will be able to reopen.

Nana's New York Hot Dogs and the adjacent El Burro Mexican restaurant have been closed since the Dec. 19 blaze.

Nana's New York Style Hot Dog is the oldest hot dog in Pittsburgh. Previously known as Steve's, has been located on Federal Street since 1964.

According to a GoFundMe page, Nana's is a place "where everyone knows each other and new friends are made with excellent service and great food. People come from all over the city and surrounding areas to visit Nana's. New customers are always coming through the door. Nana adores her customers and the customers adore Nana."

A separate GoFundMe page has been established for El Burro, which opened in 2011 and is attempting to assist its employees while the restaurant rebuilds.
