AAA Holding Free PA License Plate Replacement Events

If your plate is deemed illegible, you can get a free plate at one of several upcoming AAA East Central events.

PITTSBURGH, PA — If your license plate is deemed illegible by a police officer in Pennsylvania, you can be fined as much as $100. That might be incentive enough to attend one of several AAA East Central events to replace peeling plates for free.

A plate is considered illegible if one or more characters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the plate shows blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity, according to PennDOT. Motorists can request replacement plates when an authorized representative of PennDOT or law enforcement deems a plate illegible.

At the AAA events, officers will examine license plates and attendees can order new ones. They will be held from 11 a.m-2 p.m. at these locations:
