Pittsburgh Man Involved In Hours-Long Shootout With Police Is Dead
The suspect in a protracted gunfire battle with police in Pittsburgh was killed Wednesday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The suspect who engaged in an hours-long gunfight with law enforcement officers in the city's Garfield section reportedly is dead. Law enforcement officials confirmed the death at a news conference Wednesday.
An attempted eviction Wednesday turned into a prolonged shootout between the evictee and police and prompted the tense evacuation of people in a block of the city's Garfield section.
Thousands of shots were fired. Police on the scene were forced to request additional ammunition.

Multiple media outlets have identified the shooter as William Hardison Jr. Court records indicate he was scheduled to be evicted at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, around the time the incident began.
The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office said its people were trying to serve an eviction notice when the occupant began firing.

"One of our sergeants who was leading the detail sustained minor non-gunfire related injury while avoiding the incoming gunfire," sheriff's office spokesman Mike Manko said. "He is OK."
No one else was injured in the incident.
President Joe Biden was been briefed on the situation, White House officials said.
Pennsylvania State Police announced on social media that it will be taking control of the investigation at this point.
