Air Quality Alert Issued For Pittsburgh Area

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange air quality alert for the Pittsburgh area today as temperatures are expected to top 90 degrees.
A Code Orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, the elderly,and people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung diseases. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity.
The National Weather Service is calling for a partly sunny and hot day, with a high near 92, but the heat wave won’t last long. There’s a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening with a low of 72. Showers and storms are likely for Tuesday and should keep the temperatures in the mid-80s.
