Alan Jackson, Children's Ball Top Pittsburgh Weekend Events

PITTSBURGH, PA - Country icon Alan Jackson’s Honky Tonk Highway tour has Jackson performing hits that have gained him legions of longtime fans and new songs that continue to draw crowds as a younger generation discovers his music.

A recent inductee into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Jackson has sold nearly 60 million albums. He’s had 35 chart-topping singles.

When he comes to Pittsburgh Saturday, expect to hear songs such as like "Here in The Real World," "Chattahoochee," "Drive," "Gone Country" and arty anthems "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" and "Good Time."

  • Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers, March 25, 12:30 p.m., PPG Paints Arena, Uptown.

With the regular season entering its final two weeks, the Pens take on the archrival Flyers. Both teams remain in contention for the Metropolitan Division title, and depending on how the standings ultimately shake out they could meet in the first round of the NHL playoffs. With all of that on the line and a national TV audience on NBC, expect several hours of intense hockey.

  • Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” March 23-24, 7:30 p.m.; March 25, 2 p.m., Byham Theater, Downtown

  • 22nd Annual UPMC Children’s Ball, March 24, 5 p.m., Heinz Field, North Shore

This year’s ball has a nautical theme, with guests getting to meet cute undersea creatures, learn about marine life, sing and dance, show their artistic side, and interact with special guests as Heinz Field into our own underwater extravaganza! The event will also feature strolling performers, delicious food, under-the-sea-themed entertainment, and balloon artists. Proceeds benefit the Matilda Theiss Early Childhood Behavioral Health Program.
UPMC Children’s Ball tickets start at $40.

  • Duquesne Light Community Day, March 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Carnegie Science Center, North Shore

There’s not a more inexpensive way to enjoy the science center than Community Day, which features free general admission, free parking (subject to availability in the center’s lots) and a free film in The Rangos Giant Cinema. The freebies do not extend to food and gift shop items, but it’s still a great deal.
