Allegheny County Property Taxes Higher Than National Average

PITTSBURGH, PA - Allegheny County homeowners pay higher real estate taxes than the national average, a new study has determined.
Tax statistics curator ATTOM Data Solution’s 2017 property tax analysis shows that nationally, homeowners paid average property taxes of $3,399 per home - an effective tax rate of 1.17 percent.
The effective tax rate is the average annual property tax expressed as a percentage of the average estimated market value of homes in each geographic area. Pennsylvania had the nation’s sixth-highest effective tax rate at 2.02 percent.

The owners of Allegheny County’s 359,071 single-family homes paid an average of $3,492 for an effective tax rate of 1.92 percent. That’s lower than the state average, but considerably higher than the national average.
Allegheny County’s average estimated value for single-family homes was $181,923.
