AMC Announces Plans To Reopen Theaters
The world's largest movie theater chain has announced its reopening strategy.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A week after publicly expressing doubt about its ability to survive the coronavirus outbreak, AMC announced plans to reopen virtually all of its theaters across the country and in the United Kingdom in July. The news came as the world's largest theater chain also disclosed it suffered a staggering $2.1 billion loss in the first quarter, when its theaters had to close because of the pandemic.
AMC says it hopes to have its theaters opened in time to showcase two anticipated blockbuster releases: Christophe Nolan's "Tenet" on July 17 and Disney's "Mulan" on July 24. AMC also announced what it termed "a very robust slate" of movies for the remainder of the year, including "Sponge Bob Square Pants," "West Side Story" and "Maverick."
The company and consulting with the Harvard University School of Public Health to seek guidance on how to create the safest environment possible via the use of personal protection equipment, enhanced cleaning protocols, limited theater capacity, blocked seating and other measures.

"Our top priorities remain the safety and well-being of our guests and associates, combined with our taking sweeping actions to preserve the long-term viability of AMC Entertainment," AMC CEO Adam Aron said in a release.
