PENNSYLVANIA — Ames, the discount department store chain that went out of business in 2002, will return next year, according to an Internet announcement - and an Ames spokesperson said that return will involve Pennsylvania.

"Ames Department Stores, Inc. is returning in Spring 2023," the chain's Internet site stated. "Please keep an eye on this website for announcements on which locations are opening first."

Ames was founded in 1958 in Southbridge, MA. Once one of the country's largest discount retailers with more than 700 stores in 20 states, the chain went bankrupt and was liquidated in 2002.
