PITTSBURGH, PA —A national retailer has closed one of its Pittsburgh-area locations.
Macy's has shuttered its store at the struggling Pittsburgh Mills Mall in Frazer. It's one of 14 stores in 12 states that the department store chain has closed as part of an ongoing downsizing operation.
"In executing our strategy, we continue to review our portfolio and make careful decisions about where and how we invest, including closing underproductive stores and streamlining operations. These decisions are not made lightly," Macy's CEO Tony Spring said in a statement when the closures first were announced.
"These targeted changes allow us to focus where it will have the greatest impact – re-imagining our best stores, enhancing customer service, expanding our luxury business and advancing our supply chain capabilities."
According to the Allegheny County real estate website, Namdar Realty Group, which owns the mall, purchased the building for $2 million in January.
A potential tenant for the space has not yet been identified.
