The Cranberry-based grocer is sharpening its branding as new competitors like Wegmans and Meijer prepare to enter Western Pennsylvania, emphasizing fresh produce, craft bakery items, and higher-end culinary offerings.
2. Threat Prompts Evacuation Of All Schools In Pittsburgh-Area District (patch.com) — Students and staff in the Freedom Area School District near Pittsburgh were evacuated after the high school principal received an emailed bomb threat. All district schools were cleared as a precaution while police investigated, and officials reported no evidence so far of any explosive device being found.
3. Legendary Band Expands Tour, Will Make Pittsburgh Appearance (patch.com) — Rush is bringing its expanded Fifty Something tour to Pittsburgh, giving local fans a chance to celebrate 50 years of the band and honor late drummer Neil Peart at PPG Paints Arena on Nov. 15. Surviving members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson say they're feeling strong on the road and added Pittsburgh as one of just four new dates, with tickets going on sale Friday morning.
4. 11 Investigates: Pittsburgh city employee facing new criminal charges (wpxi.com) — A City of Pittsburgh Department of Mobility and Infrastructure employee is facing new drug possession charges after police say they found suspected narcotics and paraphernalia when he was discovered in his car on Saw Mill Run Boulevard. He previously faced withdrawn fraud-related charges tied to work in Hazelwood and remains on the city payroll while officials review the latest allegations.
5. Funeral home formerly owned by Patrick Vereb vandalized, new owner says (cbsnews.com) — A Pittsburgh funeral home formerly owned by embattled director Patrick Vereb was vandalized with spray-painted messages over the weekend, according to its new owner. Now operating as House of Paradise Cremation and Funeral Care, the business plans to open soon, and the owner says she's uninvolved in past allegations and will simply paint over the damage.
