A newly unsealed search warrant details concerns raised by city officials about the Stop The Violence fund and other financial practices, as Allegheny County prosecutors continue gathering city records without yet filing charges.
2. Former Pitt Quarterback Charged With Multiple Felonies (patch.com) — Pittsburgh sports fans may be surprised to hear that former Pitt quarterback Phil Jurkovec is facing felony charges after authorities say he stole a box truck linked to an Allegheny Health Network event. The 26-year-old former Pine-Richland and Pitt standout was arrested shortly after the incident and is now being held in the Allegheny County Jail on bond.
3. Fast Food Chain Opening Multiple New Western PA Locations (patch.com) — Chick-fil-A is rolling out nine new locations across western Pennsylvania, including upcoming restaurants in Mars, Butler, Gibsonia, Murrysville, and Latrobe that will serve Pittsburgh-area residents. The expansion, stretching from the Ohio border to the I-99 corridor, is expected to create about 1,800 jobs and increase the chain's presence beyond its existing 20 regional locations.
4. Pittsburgh Mall Loses An Anchor Store (patch.com) — Shoppers in the Pittsburgh area are seeing a major change at Ross Park Mall after JCPenney permanently closed its anchor store on Sunday, disappearing from the mall's website as well. The closure follows the chain's bankruptcy and corporate restructuring, though JCPenney will still operate at several other Western Pennsylvania malls, including Monroeville and Robinson.
5. North Side education panel sees school reconfiguration plan as a chance to 'create something better' (triblive.com) — Families on Pittsburgh's North Side are weighing big changes as the district's Future-Ready Facilities Plan closes several neighborhood schools, creates a new middle school at the Allegheny building, and adds an early childhood center and revamped Northview Heights elementary. Educators and parents are cautiously optimistic, stressing equity, better opportunities, and strong community partnerships through the transition.
