Another Pittsburgh Rite Aid To Close

Another Pittsburgh Rite Aid store will become a casualty of the pharmacy chain's bankruptcy.

PENN HILLS, PA — Two days after the disclosure that two more Pittsburgh Rite Aid locations would be closing as the pharmacy chain struggles to claw its way out of bankruptcy, a court filing has revealed a third.

The Rite Aid on Saltsburg Road in Penn Hills will be closing, joining the store on Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh and the one on Second Avenue in Hazelwood that were announced Tuesday.

The Philadelphia-based Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month.

As part of its financial reorganization plan, the company said in a statement that it plans to accelerate its "footprint optimization plan." Rite Aid did not indicate precisely how many of its stores would close under the plan, but previous reports indicated the company would shutter as many of 500 of its 2,100 locations in 17 states.

Six Pittsburgh Rite Aid locations were among the initial 99 nationwide placed on the market as the pharmacy chain attempts to navigate through its bankruptcy reorganization. They are located at:
