Anthrocon 2024: Furries To Flood Pittsburgh Hotels

Anticipated to be the largest Anthrocon ever, participants are booking Pittsburgh hotel rooms at a record pace.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Talk about furries feverish to attend this year's Anthrocon: Interest in the event at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center is so high that every room at every hotel property in the event's reserved room block sold out in a record 12 minutes.

That's according to VisitPittsburgh the region's tourism agency. Visit Pittsburgh has labored to secure additional hotel rooms for the event, which will occur July 4-7.

For the uninitiated, Anthrocon is attended by self-described furries who dress in fur suits that usually enclose the body and head. Their dedication to the furry cause is such that they don't mind profusely sweating in garb Anthrocon officials say easily can reach temperatures of 110 degrees in a matter of minutes.

Currently, 11,103 room nights have been sold.

“VisitPittsburgh has proudly worked with the organizers of Anthrocon since 2006, and every year the convention gets bigger and better,” Jerard Bachar, VisitPittsburgh president and CEO, said in a statement.

“This event’s substantial growth speaks to the strong partnership we have established, Anthrocon’s robust community impact and the neighborly nature found throughout Pittsburgh
as we welcome the return of our furry friends year after year.”
