Arrest Made In Former Pittsburgh Penguins Player's Death

Former Penguins player Adam Johnson was fatally injured during a game in England last month.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Police in England on Tuesday announced an arrest in the death last month of former Pittsburgh Penguins player Adam Johnson. South Yorkshire police did not identify the man arrested, but said the charge was suspicion of manslaughter.

Johnson died on Oct. 28 following an injury that occurred during a game between the Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers. He suffered a slashed neck.

"Our investigation launched immediately following this tragedy and we have been carrying out extensive inquiries ever since to piece together the events which led to the loss of Adam in these unprecedented circumstances," Detective Chief Superintendent Becs Horsfall said in a news release.

Johnson appeared in 13 games with the Penguins during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, scoring one goal and four assists. He spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
