Beaver County Has First Confirmed Coronavirus Case

The person with the virus is believed to be affiliated with a Beaver County school district.

ALIQUIPPA, PA - Beaver County has its first confirmed coronavirus case, county commissioners announced Monday night. The person with the virus is believed to be affiliated with the Aliquippa School District, Aliquippa superintendent Peter Carbone said in a statement posted on the district website.

"I have reliable information that the patient is a member of the Aliquippa School District community," Carbone said. "This information has not been officially confirmed by county, Pennsylvania and federal officials. Due to confidentiality consideration, I am not able to share any other details. "

Carbons said the Pennsylvania Department of Health will follow its standard protocol to inform the public and the people with whom the patient has been in contact.

There are now eight confirmed coronavirus cases in western Pennsylvania - six in Allegheny County and one each in Beaver and Washington counties. That number likely will rise Tuesday when the state health department releases updated numbers.
