Bed Bugs Found In Pittsburgh Elementary School

The bed bug issue has not forced the school to close, however.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Bed bugs were discovered at Whittier K-5 elementary school in Mt. Washington.

The school principal stated in a letter that two bed bugs were found in a classroom, KDKA-TV reported. Classrooms have been cleaned and the school is open as usual Thursday.

In September, the Clairton School District canceled classes for a day for bed bug treatment in the building that houses the district's elementary, middle and high schools. In October, the Steel Valley School District canceled classes for a day for bed bug treatments in its buildings.

A report by Terminix in June contended Pittsburgh is the nation's 16th most bed bug-infested metropolitan area in the country. In 2018, the city ranked 23rd.
