Bicyclist Found Dead Among Downed Power Lines In North Park

Allegheny County police said they found the bicyclist on a closed trail near Olympia Grove shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — A bicyclist died Tuesday night after police said he appeared to strike downed power lines while riding North Park.

Allegheny County police said officers were called to a trail near Olympia Grove shortly after 8:20 p.m. Once officers arrived, they found the man down among live wires.

Police called Duquesne Light Company to the scene, authorities said. The company cut power to the area around 10:30 p.m., and the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cyclist was identified as Robert Anderson, 63, of Wexford, WPXI reported.

Investigators said the trail was closed Tuesday morning after police were notified of downed wires and smoking along the trail. Duquesne Light Company was contacted around 8:50 a.m. and caution tape was placed at the main entrance of the trail, police said.
