Big Burrito Group Temporarily Closes Specialty Restaurants

The restaurant chain has shuttered its specialty eateries because of coronavirus seating capcaity restrictions.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Big Burrito Restaurant Group has temporarily closed its specialty restaurants due to state-mandated occupancy restrictions that limit seating capacity to 25 percent.

The eateries that have closed include:

  • Alta Via, Fox Chapel
  • Casbah, Shadyside
  • Eleven, Strip District
  • Soba, Shadyside
  • Kaya, Strip District
  • Umi, Shadyside

"We cannot operate at a limited occupancy of 25 percent which has been put in place for the indefinite future,”Big Burrito president Bill Fuller said in a release.

“We will evaluate on an ongoing basis how to reopen some or all of the specialty restaurants in a safe and sustainable fashion at some point in the future, consistent with the above standards. We very much hope to be able to re-open and operate all locations again. We earnestly thank
our patrons for their support and look forward to welcoming them back.”

Big Burrito's Mad Mex locations will remain open.
