Bret Michaels, Deisgner Days Top Pittsburgh Weekend Events

Looking for fun things to do this weekend? Patch has you covered.

PITTSBURGH, PA - To say that Bret Michaels has come a long way since his youth in Butler is an understatement. He’s a singing star who has leveraged his fame into touring appearances, reality TV show stardom and the sale of more than 32 million records.

But let’s face it. He’ll always be best known as the lead singer of Poison. One of the ‘80s quintessential hair bands, he provided the vocals to hits such as “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” “”Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Unskinny Bop” and “Talk Dirty To Me,” which surprisingly seldom ever is played at weddings.

Michaels makes a local stop near his hometown on Nov. 9, appearing at the Palace Theater in Greensburg for an 8 p.m. show. If you’re an ‘80s nostalgia fan, this is a can’t-miss concert.

  • Designer Days, Nov. 8-10, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Nov. 11 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thriftique, Lawrenceville

Designer Days is the resale shopping event of the year. Savvy fashionistas come to Pittsburgh from miles around to shop for new and gently-worn designer label clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories. You’ll find Missoni, Michael Kors, Eileen Fisher, Gucci, Chanel, Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Kenneth Cole, Free People, and many others sold for a fraction of retail price. With brands like that, you’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t go there to at least pick up a babushka.

  • Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Arizona Coyotes, Nov. 10, 7 p.m. PPG Paints Arena

There’s no way to sugarcoat this: the Pens have been floundering of late and fans are concerned even though it’s still relatively early in the season. Here’s a chance to see what hopefully will be a rebound effort against the Coyotes, who currently are in sixth place in the NHL’s Pacific Division.

Penguins-Coyotes tickets start at $50.

  • Wholey’s Oyster Festival, Nov. 9-10, Wholey’s, Strip District

It's truly an oyster extravaganza as Wholey’s will have all sorts of oyster varieties to choose from. Head to the market for a free seafood class on Oysters Rockefeller, with samples to taste. Enjoy special sales and offers on oysters along with tips and recipes. Treat your tastebuds to fried oysters, oyster po’boys and more from Wholey’s kitchen.

  • Pennsylvania Bridal and Wedding Expo, Nov. 11, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown
