PITTSBURGH, PA - The owner of Century III mall claim they are working diligently with others on a new plan to redevelop the 90-acre property. Las Vegas-based Moonbeam Capital Investments made the assertion in a recent U.S. Bankruptcy Court requesting an extension on submitting a reorganization.

The Pittsburgh Business Times reported that Moonbeam claims it is working with “architects, engineers and development consultants” on a “complex redevelopment (of an) enclosed shopping mall, parking lot, parking structure (and) roads.”

Century III, which has 1.2 million square feet of retail space, essentially is empty. The only remaining tenant is a JC Penney store accessible via exterior entrances. The mall’s interior is closed.

Moonbeam, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September, purchased Century III in 2013. The company’s last redevelopment plan in 2015 called for converting the mall into more of an outdoor complex with a theater, hotel and medical offices.

That plan abruptly was pulled from Moonbeam’s website shortly after its release and Moonbeam officials since haven’t discussed their intentions for the West Mifflin site since then.
