Children's Hospital Of Pittsburgh Rated A Top Pediatric Facility

See how the hospital fared in the 2019 U.S. News rankings of the nation's best pediatric hospitals.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is among the best in the country across numerous pediatric specialties. So says U.S. News & World Report, which released its 13th annual Best Children's Hospitals rankings. Tuesday.

Children's in Pittsburgh, which ranked eighth nationally, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, which was second, were the only children's hospitals in Pennsylvania to make the news organization's list.

Here's how Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh ranked nationally across the various specialties:

  • Cardiology and heart surgery: 3
  • Diabetes and endocrinology: 6
  • Pulmonology: 6
  • Gastroenterology and gastroenterology surgery: 7
  • Urology: 10 (tie).

Leslie Davis, a UPMC senior vice president, noted that UPMC Children's providers and locations are not affected by the end of the UPMC-Highmark consent decrees that are due to expire at the end of June.

Children's, Davis said, "will continue to provide world-class pediatric care in-network for all major health insurers, including Highmark, after June 30. “We are sure of this—UPMC Children’s always will be a top destination for the highest quality pediatric care.”

The 2019-20 rankings are based on data obtained through a clinical survey sent to nearly 200 hospitals and a reputational survey sent to about 15,000 physicians who are pediatric specialists. RTI International, a North Carolina-based research and consulting firm that also generates
the Best Hospitals rankings, administered both surveys and analyzed the results. More than
100 medical experts on pediatric care provided input on what information to collect and how to analyze the data.
