Children's Theater Fesitval Tops Pittsburgh Weekend Activities
But don't forget about Rick Springfield and a certain food truck festival.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Continuing a tradition of bringing extraordinary and unique experiences to young people, this year’s 32nd annual EQT Children’s Theater Festival features live performances for children of all ages from professional international artists.
Held at various indoor and outdoor locations in the Downtown Cultural District, the festival features exciting paid performances plus many free activities and family-friendly art.

The EQT Children’s Theater Festival will be held May 17-20 beginning at 10 a.m. each day. Ticketed performances begin at $9.

- Rick Springfield, May 18, 8 p.m., Palace Theater, Greensburg
Four decades ago, he made teen girls swoon with power-pop hits such as “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk To Strangers” and “I’ve Done Everything For You.” Expect to hear those and more from this Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and musician.
Rick Springfield tickets start at $45.
- Pirates vs. San Diego Padres, May 18, 19, 7:05 p.m; May 20, 1:35 p.m.
Come see the surprisingly competitive Pirates take on the unsurprisingly noncompetitive Padres this weekend. Promotions will occur for each game of the series: Friday is Zambelli Fireworks Night, Saturday is Pirates Vintage Bobblehead Night and Sunday is Kids Wristband Day. Now that the weather is seasonable and the Pirates are playing well, there’s no reason not to go.
Pirates-Padres tickets start at $22.
- Touch-A-Truck, May 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Baldwin Borough Building, Baldwin
This fundraiser for the Baldwin Public Library allows kids to let kids get behind the wheel, honk the horns, take pictures of themselves in firetrucks, an ambulance, police car, SWAT car, classic cars, bookmobile, a Michael Brothers Hauler & Construction Equipment truck, a Duquesne Light bucket truck, a public works bulldozer and more. There also will be food, drinks and a variety of other kid activities.
Touch-A-Truck admission is $10 for families, $5 for individuals.
- North Hills Food Truck Festival, May 20, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church, Ross
They'll be serving up meals on wheels May 20 at this fifth annual North Hills event. In addition to more than two dozen food trucks, there will be a bake sale, photo tent, music and small games of chance. Don't worry about inclement weather, as indoor seating will be available.
North Hills Food Truck Festival admission is free, but you have to pay for your chow.
