PITTSBURGH, PA (November 1, 2021) The City of Pittsburgh has finalized the purchase of an additional land parcel in the Garfield neighborhood to expand green space for the Nelson Mandela Peace Park. The community had requested the expansion of the park and has worked with the City and Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation to purchase the adjacent lot.

The newly-purchased parcel sits between the park and a city-owned lot that will also be used to expand the green space. The City purchased the parcel from the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation for $5,000 and will continue to work directly with the community to facilitate the expansion.  

The Department of Public Works has recently worked directly with the community to provide playground renovations inlcuding new equipment and a brand new spray feature, which was unveiled in August 2020.
