Classic Kennywood Coaster Getting Winter Makeover
One of the West Mifflin's amusement park's well-known coasters is getting a rehab before the start of the 2021 season.

WEST MIFFLIN, PA — Spring might seem like a long way off, but it won't belong before Kennywood opens for the 2021 season with continued COVID-19 restrictions in place.
With that thought in mind, crews are rehabbing several popular rides, including the Racer. The popular coaster, which debuted in 1927 and is one of the world's oldest coasters, is getting 500 feet of new track during the off-season.
Tuesday Transformation: some 500+ feet of Racer track are being replaced this offseason as part of our annual maintenance programs. This winter's work focuses on the front and back turnarounds on the ride!

The Racer features a loop layout in which both of its trains "race" along a continuous track. Each train returns to the station on the opposite side from where it began the ride.
