Debut Date Set For Steel Curtain, PA's Tallest Roller Coaster
The Steel Curtain will thrill guests at the Kennywood amusement park near Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Less than a week after beginning test runs on the new Steel Curtain coaster, Kennywood has announced its official opening date: July 13.
Already having garnered national and international attention, the Steel Curtain is Pennsylvania's tallest roller coaster at 220 feet. Its maximum speed is 75 mph and it features a 205-foot drop coming out of the world's tallest inversion - 197 feet.
"The Steel Curtain isn't like any other roller coaster out there and we can’t wait to start taking guests the world over for the ride of their lives,” Kennywood general manager Jerome Gibas said in a statement. “This is the next great addition to Kennywood."Designed by S&S Worldwide, the Steel Curtain has more than 4,000 feet of track, crosses over midways and through Kennywood's lagoon.

Named after the heralded Pittsburgh Steelers defenses of the 1970s, the ride will anchor Kennywood's new Steelers Country area. It will feature an entry tunnel similar to the one at Heinz Field, interactive skill games, a new restaurant area, a Steelers fountain that will allow park guests to cool off on hot summer days, a dining area and a large scoreboard.
