PITTSBURGH, PA — Special elections in the Pittsburgh area Tuesday resulted in Democrats winning control of the state House for the first time in over a decade. Republicans still control the state Senate.
Elected were Joe McAndrew, 32, the former executive director of Allegheny County's Democratic committee; Abigail Salisbury, 40, a Swissvale council member; and Matthew Gergely, a McKeesport city government employee.

The election results were not surprising, given that Democrats won all three seats last fall. DeLuca was re-elected weeks after his death.
Democrats now hold a 102-100 edge in the state House.
