Downtown Pittsburgh Steakhouse Abruptly Closes

A sign on the front of the establishment notified people of the sudden closure.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Red, the Steakhouse has raised the white flag in Pittsburgh. After not even a year of operation, the cavernous restaurant in the U.S. Steel Building, Downtown, has closed its doors.

The upscale restaurant's other locations in Cleveland and Beachwood, Ohio, Miami Beach and Indianapolis have proven to be popular among dining critics. Playboy rated it among the nation's 10 best steakhouses, while USA Today and Forbes also have posted positive reviews.

But Red faced an uphill battle in Pittsburgh, which already had two established Downtown steakhouses - Ruth’s Chris and Morton’s - and another on the North Shore, Hyde Park.
