Downtown Pittsburgh's Mitchell's Moving To Bar-Only Business
The Downtown institution is about to serve its last lunch.

PITTSBURGH, PA - For lovers of Downtown dining tradition, this likely will hurt. Mitchell’s, which has been a favorite spot for Grant Street politicians and lawyers to congregate, will serve its last meal on Friday.
The century-old business isn’t closing, but will undergo what owner James Mitchell calls a “re-engineering.” Mitchell will expand his corporate catering service and convert the restaurant space into an expanded tavern area.
“Stay tuned as we take Mitchell’s Pub to the next level,” Mitchell said in a statement posted to the establishment’s website. “I know many will miss my place for lunch. I will miss you all as well, but...it is time.”

Mitchell’s has operated at several Downtown locations since its 1906 inception. It’s been at the corner of Third and Ross since 1980, when Jim Mitchell took over the business from his father.
The tavern will remain open while renovations begin in May to double the size of the bar, Mitchell said.
