Eat'n Park History Chronicled In New Book
"The Story Behind the Smile" offers a rich history of the beloved Pittsburgh restaurant chain.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The history of Eat'n Park, a Pittsburgh restaurant staple for decades, and parent company Parkhurst Dining, has been chronicled in a new book, "The Story Behind the Smile." The book traces the organization's evolution from a single carhop restaurant that today also operates the Hello Bisto and The Porch eateries.
"The Story Behind the Smile" details how the sugar cookie from company chairman Jim Broadhurst's went on to become the Smiley Cookie, which has evolved into an iconic Pittsburgh symbol not unlike the Terrible Towel.
Other highlights include the role Isaly’s played in Eat'n Park's start-up; how the company's strawberry pie was developed; and the company's interest in developing new brands outside of the company's signature business interest.
