Ex-Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto Involved In Bar Altercation: Reports

The former mayor and another man scuffled at a Shadyside bar over the weekend, according to TV reports.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Former Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto got into an altercation with another man Saturday night at Cappy's Bar on Walnut Street in Shadyside, according to KDKA-TV and WPXI-TV. Both stations cited unnamed police sources in their reports.

According to the stations, Peduto was sitting inside the bar when a group of people began to heckle him. Peduto pushed one of the hecklers, and according to WPXI-TV, another man grabbed Peduto from behind, got him in a headlock and slammed him to the ground.

Police were summoned to the scene, but none of the people involved in the scuffle wanted to press charges, the stations reported. No one involved required medical attention.

Peduto, 58, was mayor from 2014 until 2022. He was defeated by current Mayor Ed Gainey in the 2021 Democratic primary.

Before becoming mayor, Peduto served on city council from 2002 until 2014.
