Ex-Steeler Arrested Day Before Team Released Him

A former Steeler was given his walking papers after being criminally charged in Florida.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Steelers linebacker Jamir Jones abruptly was released last month, despite have re-signed with the team as a free agent in February after playing for the Steelers last season.

The move puzzled Steelers fans and members of the media. But the release came a day after Jones was arrested in Florida on a domestic violence charge, according to Broward County Court Records.

Jones has pleaded not guilty to a battery charge.

In a written order signed April 20, a judge permitted Jones to have contact with the alleged victim but barred him from being physically threatening or violent toward the victim.

In addition to the Steelers, Jones, 24, has played in the NFL with the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars. He played college football at Notre Dame.
