Expect Route 51 Traffic Headaches Saturday

Ramp, lane closures could aggravate motorists.

DORMONT, PA - The Liberty Bridge shutdown won’t be the only inconvenience South Hills motorists will face this weekend. PennDOT is closing the southbound Route 51 off-ramp to Route 19 from 8 p.m. Friday
to 5 a.m. Saturday.

While crews conduct overhead sign replacement work, motorists should follow the following detour:

  • Continue southbound on Route 51 Route 51 past the closed ramp.
  • Take the ramp to Lebanon Church Road toward McKeesport/West Mifflin.
  • From Lebanon Church Road, take the ramp to northbound Route 51 toward Pittsburgh.
  • Take northbound Route 51 back to the Liberty Tunnel interchange.
  • Take the ramp toward Downtown/Dormont.
  • End detour.

That’s not all. A single-lane restriction on Route 51 will occur in each direction at the Liberty Tunnel interchange from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday as crews conduct concrete mountable median installation.
