Flu Cases Rampant In Pittsburgh Area, State Health Officials Say
Pittsburgh and Allegheny County by far have the most reported flu cases in Pennsylvania thus far this season.
PITTSBURGH, PA - Pennsylvania Department of Health officials are warning of a widespread flu outbreak across the state, and no place has been hit harder than the Pittsburgh metro area.
Since the 2019-20 flu season began Sept. 29,there have been 4,424 laboratory-confirmed influenza cases reported in 64 of Pennsylvania's 67 counties. Allegheny County had the most reported cases by far, with 1,223.
Beaver County had the second-most statewide with 434 cases. In southwestern Pennsylvania, Washington County has 348 cases, Westmoreland 218, Butler 24 and Armstrong 14.

Six flu-related deaths already have occurred statewide. Five were over 65 years old. One was between 50 and 64. No pediatric deaths have occurred so far this season, state data indicates.
The widespread outbreak is prompting health officials to reiterate the need for people to get flu vaccines.

“The flu is serious and can be deadly, which is why it is so important for everyone to take the proper precautions to protect themselves, their loved ones and anyone they meet,” Pennsylvania
Secretary of Health Rachel Levin said in a statement.
“In the last few weeks, we have seen flu cases increase in all state regions. Especially with the upcoming holidays, where many people will be gathering together, I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to get your flu vaccine so can be protected throughout the flu season.
There is no better measure to protect yourself than to get a flu vaccine.”
