Forever 21 In Bankruptcy, Pittsburgh-Area Stores Could Close

PITTSBURGH, PA - Forever 21 has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Sunday and will close up to 178 stores across the country, the retailer announced.

"The decisions as to which domestic stores will be closing are ongoing, pending the outcome of continued conversations with landlords," the company stated on its website. "We do however expect a significant number of these stores will remain open and operate as usual, and we do not expect to exit any major markets in the U.S."

Established in 1984, Forever 21 grew quickly and had $4.4 billion in revenues at its peak four years ago. Now, the company expects to shutter many of its stores in Europe and Asia as well as the nearly 200 in the U.S.

In Pittsburgh, the stores at risk of closing are located at:

South Hills Village.

The Mall At Robinson.

Monroeville Mall.

"Our stores are open and it will continue to feel like a normal day," the company statement said. "You will not see any changes in our stores, gift cards will continue to be accepted, and our policies, including returns and exchanges, remain the same."
