Former High-Ranking Allegheny Co. Elected Official Dies Of COVID
COVID-19 complications claimed the life of former Allegheny County Controller Mark Patrick Flaherty.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Former Allegheny County Controller Mark Patrick Flaherty has died from COVID-19 complications. His death was announced on social media by his cousin, Pittsburgh attorney Shawn Flaherty.
Mr. Flaherty, of Mt. Lebanon, served two terms as county controller from 2004 to 2012. He was a practicing attorney for 20 years in the areas of tax, finance, corporations and government.
Mr. Flaherty was a Mt. Lebanon High School graduate. He received an economics degree from Duke University and obtained his law degree from Duquesne Univerity, according to the website for his unsuccessful run last year for an Allegheny County Common Pleas Court seat.
