Former PA District Attorney Sentenced To Prison For Attacking Woman

Former Somerset County District Attorney Jeffrey Thomas was sentenced for criminal charges that included indecent assault.

SOMERSET COUNTY, PA — Former Somerset County District Attorney Jeffrey Thomas will spend up to 7 years in prison for charges related to a September 2021 attack of a Windber woman, state Attorney General Michell Henry's office announced.

Thomas, 37, was convicted in March of indecent assault, strangulation, simple assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and criminal trespass. In addition to his prison sentence, he will be required to register his whereabouts with police as a sex offender for 15 years.

“Jeffrey Thomas was chosen by the voters to protect the citizens of Somerset County,” Henry said in a statement. said Attorney General Henry. “Instead, he violated his oath and duty, causing serious harm to his victim and those close to her. "

An attorney general's office investigation found that Thomas entered the victim’s home and refused to leave. He beat her and sexually assaulted her. Trial testimony indicated Thomas had messaged the victim for months with inappropriate images.

The victim testified that Thomas’s position as District Attorney was intimidating and prevented her from immediately reporting the unwanted contact.
