Former Pittsburgh Police Chief Dies

A retired Pittsburgh police chief has died, city officials said.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Former Pittsburgh police chief Earl Buford has died, according to city officials.

Buford served as chief from 1992 until 1995 and was the second minority in city history to hold the top law enforcement position.

He grew up in East Liberty and attended Westinghouse High School, joining the U.S. Army upon graduation in 1960. Buford joined the city police force in 1968 after earning two college degrees
when he returned home from the military.
