Former Pittsburgh Rite Aid To Become Grocery Store

PITTSBURGH, PA —A former Rite Aid in Squirrel Hill is about to be repurposed into a neighborhood grocery store.

The 12,000-square-foot space at the intersection of Forbes and Murray avenues has been leased to Murray Avenue Market, filling one of the largest vacancies in The Brandywine building.

The market will feature fresh produce, premium meats, baked goods, prepared foods, kosher grocery offerings, and everyday household essentials in a clean, modern shopping environment designed to welcome everyone.

“At Murray’s, our vision has always been to run a kosher market that’s also a true community grocery store—open to everyone,” said Murray's Market owner Yitzchok Glassner.

“We’re building a healthy, clean, convenient, and accessible market centered around fresh produce, quality meats, baked goods, exceptional prepared foods, and everyday essentials. You don’t have to be Jewish to shop at Murray’s; our goal is to become the neighborhood’s go-to market for quality, convenience, and outstanding service."

Murray's will have two competing stores just a few blocks down the street: a Giant Eagle and Murray Avenue Kosher.

Murray’s Market is expected to begin construction in the coming months, with opening details to be announced at a later date.

Murray's Market represents a significant get for Brandywine Communities, the Pittsburgh-based real estate owner, developer, and property management company that bought the building in 2025.
