Frigid Temperatures To Force First Night Activities Indoors

Here's the amended schedule for the city's New Year's Eve celebration.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Anticipated frigid temperatures have prompted the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust to move various portions of Highmark First Night Pittsburgh festivities indoors. The forecasted high for New Year’s Eve is just 16 degrees, with temperatures expected to drop overnight to 5 degrees.

Here are some of the changes:

  • Lee Fields & The Expressions will perform on the Benedum Center stage from 10:30–11:30 p.m. This performance requires an admission button.
  • River City Brass will now perform from 6:00–6:45 p.m. in the grand lobby of the Benedum.
  • Ice Creations and Steel Town Fire will still perform on the Fire and Ice Stage located at the corner of 9th St. and Penn Ave. They will be performing shortened sets from 6:00–10:30 p.m.

  • Byron Nash and Plan B will perform at the Highmark Stage at 11:30 p.m. to ring in the New Year with The Future of Pittsburgh Grand Finale featuring a Zambelli Fireworks display.
  • River City Brass will now perform from 6:00–6:45 p.m. in the grand lobby of the Benedum Center.
  • Ice Creations and Steel Town Fire will still perform on the Fire and Ice Stage located at the corner of 9th St. and Penn Ave. They will be performing shortened sets from 6:00–10:30 p.m.
  • The Williams SING-OFF Finalists will perform in the Peirce Studio of the Trust Arts Education Center from 6:30–7:00 p.m.
  • The parade’s high-energy highlights are being moved inside and extended from 7:30–9:00 p.m. with a puppet party which will take place in the August Wilson Center for African American Culture.
  • Soul Line Dancing with Roland Ford will take place in the Highmark Room at the August Wilson Center during the scheduled times.
