PITTSBURGH, PA — The fate of local Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores are in doubt after their respective parent company announced Wednesday that it planned to close about 1,000 stores.

About 30 Dollar Tree stores also will be shuttered.

Family Dollar will close 600 locations in the first half of the year. Another 370 stores will be vacated over the next several years as store leases expire. According to a news release from the company, the decision to close the stores came from "a comprehensive store portfolio optimization review which involved identifying stores for closure."
