Health Violations Found At Popular Pittsburgh-Area Restaurant

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA —Several health violations were found during a recent inspect at a location of one of the Pittsburgh area's most popular burger chains.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Bureau ruled that Burgatory on Blue Spruce Way in Murrysville was out of compliance with state health regulations.

During an Aug. 7 inspection, an employee was observed handling raw beef with gloved hands, then continuing to handle ready-to-eat items such as chips, cheese, and burger bun without removing their gloves and washing their hands.

The restaurant was instructed to re-train its employees on proper raw animal protein handling procedures.

An employee also was observed eating personal food and then walking onto the kitchen line, donning gloves and beginning food preparation without washing their hands. Employees also were handling dirty dishes and and then clean dishes without washing their hands.

The eatery was reminded that hands must be properly washed whenever changing changing tasks where contamination could occur. The restaurant was instructed to re-train employees on proper handwashing procedures.

The ambient air temperature of a walk-in cooler was found to be between 46 and 47 degrees. Items were moved to another cooler that was working properly. Other food items measured at 44-45 degrees were thrown away.

Additionally, pooling and standing water were found on floors throughout the kitchen.

None of the other Burgatory locations - at the Waterworks near Aspinwall, The Pointe in North Fayette, The Waterfront in Homestead, on the North Shore, in McCandless Crossing, in Cranberry and at Acrisure Stadium - have been cited.
