Heat Advisory Issued For Pittsburgh; Beryl Remnants Pose Threat

Pittsburgh will experience dangerous heat and humidity on Tuesday as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl approach the region.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Another scorching summer day is in store for the Pittsburgh area.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Pittsburgh and all of Southwestern Pennsylvania from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat index values up to 104 likely.

The weather service is advising people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

In the city, cooling centers will be open again today from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at senior centers in
Beechview, Greenfield, Homewood, Sheraden and on the South Side.

The weather service continues to warn that the remnants of Hurricane Beryl, now a tropical depression, could lead to the development of thunderstorms with the potential to produce locally heavy rainfall on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Some storms will also have the potential to produce damaging winds and perhaps a tornado.

Wednesday's high temperatures will be in the low 90s. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Expect one day of cooler temperatures on Thursday. Highs will be the low 80s, with highs in the 90s returning to the area for the weekend.
