Heinz Field Under Early Consideration To Be A 2026 World Cup Venue

Heinz Field is one of 44 stadiums that could host a match if the United States, Canada and Mexico end up jointly hosting the World Cup.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Heinz Field made the initial cut for stadiums under consideration to host at least one of the matches in the United States, Canada and Mexico’s bid to host the 2026 World Cup.

A total of 44 stadiums in the three countries are vying to be part of the world’s premier soccer event, with 37 of those venues in the U.S. The North American bid is competing with one from Morocco and a decision could be made as early as next June, SI.com reported.

What happens next? The 44 cities contacted by the United Bid Committee have until Sept. 5 to express interest. A short list of cities then will be compiled, with those markets submitting final proposals by January.
