'Hello Dolly,' Chris Stapleton Top Pittsburgh Weekend Events

PITTSBURGH, PA- Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Betty Buckley stars in this new Pittsburgh CLO production of the timeless classic “Hello Dolly. The musical follows the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a strong-willed matchmaker, as she travels to Yonkers, New York to find a match for the miserly well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder.

Winner of four Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, director Jerry Zaks’ new production has gotten rave reviews from Vogue, The Washington Post and Rolling Stone. It pays tribute to the original work of the late legendary director-choreographer Gower Champion.

“Hello Dolly” will be performed Aug.8,at 7:30 p.m.; Aug. 9, at 8 p.m.; Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Benedum Center, Downtown.

The Grammy Award-winning country singer brings his All-American Road Show to Pittsburgh with special guests Margo Price and The Marcus King Band. Stapleton has co-written six number-one country songs and his songs have appeared on many artists’ albums, including Adele, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley.

  • Interpol, Aug. 10, 7 p.m., Stage AE, North Shore.

The critically acclaimed New York-based rock band has been around for more than 20 years. Expect to hear cuts from their debut album “Turn on the Bright Lights,” all the way to their most recent work, last year’s “Marauder.”

  • Pressley Ridge Ice Cream Fundae, Aug. 11 6 p.m.-9 p.m., Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.

This fundraiser marks its 25th anniversary amid the sights and sounds of the zoo. Enjoy more than a dozen flavors of Graeter’s Ice Cream, face painting, live music by DJ Jan Jursa and Steel City Calypso, entertainment by magician Christopher Welch, Pittsburgh Circus Arts Collaborative and more. Not a bad way to end the weekend.
