Here Are Pittsburgh's Best Maternity Hospitals: U.S. News

PITTSBURGH, PA — Three Western Pennsylvania hospitals have been named among the best for maternity care in the 2024 U.S. News & World Report rankings.

The medical facilities are West Penn Hospital in Bloomfield, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland and Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg. U.S. News & World Report said the hospitals are the best maternity facilities in the Pittsburgh area and meet high maternity care standards with uncomplicated pregnancies.

"This recognition reflects the expertise of our team members who provide an excellent birthing experience for our patients and a strong commitment to our region’s expectant parents and their babies," Dr. Richard Bergi, UPMC Magee president, said in a statement.

U.S. News evaluated nearly 680 hospitals. Fewer than half of all hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a high performing designation.

U.S. News examined metrics such as C-section rates in lower risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, rates of breast milk feeding, early elective delivery dates, birthing friendly practices and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities.
