How Well-Liked Are Pittsburgh Accents Nationwide? Survey Has Results

A new survey ranks various accents across the nation. Find out here how Pittsburgh fared.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Yinz aren't going to like this n'at. But a recent survey by language learning platform Preply revealed that a majority of people believe that Pittsburgh's accents are the nation's ugliest.

The survey was intended to help determine the American accents viewed as best, worst, sexiest, smartest sounding and most annoying.

The Pittsburgh accent had the following rankings:

  • Accent Americans dislike the most: 1.
  • Least trustworthy accent: 1.
  • Least sexy American accent: 1.
  • Most annoying accent: 3.

The most-liked American accents, according to the survey:

  1. Southern: 41 percent.
  2. New York: 30 percent.
  3. Midwestern: 24 percent.
  4. New Orleans 19 percent.
  5. Southern California: 18 percent.

The Pittsburgh accent, by contrast, was liked by just 3 percent of respondents.
