I-579 Ramp Work To Trigger Detours, Delays

PITTSBURGH, PA - Delays and detours are in the works for motorists traveling from I-579 to Oakland and the Parkway East. PennDOT announced a $1.2 million rehabilitation project on the ramp carring traffic from southbound 579 to the outbound Boulevard of the Allies beginning March 25.

The ramp will be restricted to a single 11-foot lane and truck traffic will be prohibited continuously through late June. Improvement work includes concrete repairs to the deck, barriers, and underside of the ramp, substructure cleaning, drainage upgrades, pavement marking installation, and other miscellaneous construction activities.

I-579 Crosstown Boulevard Ramp to the Boulevard of the Allies

  • From southbound I-579 or Route 380, take the ramp to 7th Avenue/6th Avenue.
  • Take the ramp to 6th Avenue.
  • Follow to Ross Street.
  • Follow Ross Street to Forbes Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Forbes Avenue and follow to Craft Avenue (detour to Oakland ends).
  • For trucks continuing to eastbound I-376 (Parkway East), turn right onto Craft Avenue.
  • Turn left onto PA-885 South Boulevard of the Allies.
  • Turn right onto PA-885 South Bates Street toward Monroeville/Glenwood.
  • Take the left exit to I-376 East toward Monroeville.
  • End detou.r

  • Turn onto Crawford Street.
  • Turn right onto Centre Avenue.
  • Turn right onto Sixth Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Ross Street.
  • Follow Ross Street to Forbes Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Forbes Avenue and follow to Craft Avenue (detour to Oakland ends).
  • For trucks continuing to eastbound I-376 (Parkway East), turn right onto Craft Avenue.
  • Turn left onto PA-885 South Boulevard of the Allies.
  • Turn right onto PA-885 South Bates Street toward Monroeville/Glenwood.
  • Take the left exit to I-376 East toward Monroeville.
  • End detour.

From Southbound I-279 and Southbound Route 28

  • Continue on southbound I-279.
  • Cross the Fort Duquesne Bridge.
  • Take the left exit ramp toward Downtown/376 East Monroeville.
  • Stay right toward 376 East toward Monroeville.
  • Follow to eastbound 376 (detour to I-376 Parkway East ends).
  • For trucks continuing to Oakland, take the Forbes Avenue/Oakland (Exit 72A) off-ramp.
  • End detour.
