Ice Storm On The Way For Portions Of Western PA
The National Weather Service has issued ice storm warnings for parts of the region, while other areas will see a rain-only event.
PITTSBURGH, PA — If you live in the Pittsburgh metro area, count your meteorological blessings. If you live east and north of the city, prepare to deal with treacherous amounts of ice on the way.
The National Weather Service has issued ice storm warnings for portions of Westmoreland, Fayette and Indiana counties from 10 p.m. tonight until 10 p.m. on Thursday. As much as a quarter-inch of ice could accumulate in portions of those areas, making travel extremely hazardous in those areas and potentially triggering power outages.
The Pittsburgh area will see a rain event beginning after midnight and continuing into Thursday. Rainfall amounts likely will range from a half-inch to an inch. The weather service says the possibility of the city and outlying suburbs receiving ice accumulation is low, with the exception of a few northern Allegheny County communities.

After the storm passes, colder air will move into the region. High temperatures over the weekend are expected to be only in the low- to mid-30s.
