Juneteenth 2024: What's Open, Closed In Pittsburgh

Will Pittsburgh cooling centers be open on the Juneteenth holiday? City swimming pools? Will there be refuse collection? Find out here.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The city will have six cooling centers open on Juneteenth Wednesday, but city offices and CitiParks facilities will be closed in observance of the holiday.

With temperatures again soaring into the mid-90s, healthy active living centers (senior centers) will be open as cooling centers from 12 p.m.-7 p.m. in the following neighborhoods:

  • Beechview
  • Brighton Heights
  • Greenfield
  • Homewood
  • Sheraden
  • South Side

All other senior centers and recreation centers will be closed.

The following swimming pools will be open with adult lap swim from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. and open swim from 1 p.m.-5:45 p.m. : Ammon, Banksville, Bloomfield, Highland, Jack Stack, Magee, Moore, Phillips, Ormsby, Schenley and Westwood.

Due to capacity limitations, adult lap swim is not available at Schenley Park.

McBride and Sue Murray pools will have open swim from 12 p.m.-4:45 p.m.

Riverview and West Penn pools will be closed.

The city will not have any refuse, bulk waste and recycling collection on Wednesday. For the rest of the week, trash collection will occur one day later than usual.
